The Value of Consolidation

Inspired by Cam Anderson from Blacktail Studio talking about his customer being super happy when his epoxy table course came out because the customer no longer needs to consolidate techniques scattered in his videos. I start to think about the value of consolidation.

Sometimes, I pieced together code from different places to implement a feature. I used my knowledge and skill to combine these pieces into a usable feature.

Sometimes, I cherry pick different design features from furniture pieces of the same form to make my own. An example would be to use one person’s hand plane storage solution, and another person’s chisel storage solution to make my own tool cabinet.

Consolidation is about connecting the dots. It may not sound as ground breaking as inventing the dot, but it does adds value to people’s lives.
